May 2009 Strategic Planning Report Update
The CUPE 998 executive members met for a bi-annual Strategic Planning Session in the latter part of May, to establish objectives for the forthcoming two-year period. Items which were highlighted to receive the most immediate and concentrated attention were:
- Implementation of the Manitoba Hydro Enhanced Pension Plan
- Preparation for contract renewal negotiations
Other issues to be addressed in the coming months will include:
- Succession planning for current and new executive members
- Promotion of reduced contracting out and the importance of dedicated long-term staff
- Promoting consumer awareness regarding how an equitable, unionized work environment contributes to economical rates and power reliability
- Advocating for increased membership participation to improve member awareness
- Maintaining healthy labour-management relations
The executive will monitor the plan’s progress at various points over this time period.
