The Membership Committee is in charge of keeping an up-to-date list of all CUPE 998 employees in Manitoba Hydro. We ensure members have signed their membership cards or had an opportunity to sign their card and we send new members their cards and membership info.

We are responsible for providing a list of all unsigned members to the Chief Steward and the 998 Executive on a quarterly basis.

The Membership Committee also looks after the purchase of promotional items for CUPE 998.

2010 Summer Students Orientations

Major start date orientations for summer students are scheduled for April 26 & 27. CUPE membership committee members will be there to welcome students and hand out membership kits.

Students starting before or after that time will have their membership kits mailed to their work locations. If you are (or know of a student) who did not receive a kit, please contact the CUPE office at phone 204-415-5114.

As unionized employees, students can expect fair wages and compensation for their work and are also entitled to fair treatment in a safe and supportive environment.

We remind all students to keep safety in mind as they learn their new jobs. Young people are often more at risk for injury due to their inexperience. According to statistics from SAFE Workers of Tomorrow, over 16,000 workers are seriously injured in Manitoba each year and over 10 die as a result of work-related injuries.

Have a great summer at Manitoba Hydro! Feel free to contact the office with any union-related questions or concerns.
