In the Event of an IBEW strike
CUPE 998 members,
As you might have heard, our friends and colleagues who are members of IBEW Local 2034 have been going through negotiations with the employer, however they are now at an impasse.
In the event that Local 2034 does go on strike, we encourage you to join them on the picket line on your own time during your lunch hours and coffee breaks. Should you refuse to cross the picket line, you will be participating in an illegal strike and you will not be able to claim a sick day. The only reasons why you can refuse to cross the picket line is if you feel there is a threat to your personal safety or stress. We are currently working with IBEW Local 2034 to establish a protocol that will allow you to get to your workplace free of any confrontation.
It is important to note that you cannot be disciplined for refusing to do an IBEW member’s work. If you are being directed to perform the duties of another bargaining unit, please contact CUPE Local 998 immediately.
For more information about the state of IBEW Local 2034’s negotiations, please visit: http://www.ibew2034.com/news.asp.
